Beets
Seed Treatment
Use seed treated with thiram 75WP (3 oz/100 pounds; 1 level teaspoon/lb) or Apron XL LS (0.32 to 0.64 fluid ounces/100 pounds) plus Maxim 4FS (0.08-0.16 fl.oz/100 pounds).
Disease Control
Damping-Off (Pythium and Phytophthora)
Apply the following preplant incorporated or as a soil-surface spray after planting.
Ridomil Gold--1-2pt 4E/A.
Leaf Spot
Rotate to allow 2-3 years between beet plantings. Plow under beet refuse at end of season. Apply one of the following when disease threatens and repeat every 7 to 10 days. Do not make more than two sequential applications of Cabrio or Quadris before alternating with a copper fungicide.
azoxystrobin (Quadris--6.2 - 15.4 oz 2.08F/A or Amistar--2-5 oz 80WDG/A, or
Cabrio--8-12 oz 20EG/A, or
copper, fixed (Champ DP, Kocide 2000)--1.33-2.66lb 58DP/A or OLF
Pocket Rot (Rhizoctonia)
azoxystrobin (Quadris at 0.4-0.8 fl oz 2.08F/1000 ft of row or Amistar at 0.125-0.25 fl oz 80WDG/1000 ft of row.
Black Spot
Can be caused by boron deficiency. Use boron at planting according to soil test results.
